To fortune man is just a pawn,
And till from earth he's dead and gone,
A happy life he hasn't led
For Dest'ny cares not where we tread
In life, she is a terrible judge.
If you're at peace she'll give a nudge
Then soon you're wealth she'll confiscate
And leave you poor to speculate
Why fate has been so cruel

About Communion

I had never realized this before, but some denominations think communion is really important. When I was having a discussion with a certain someone, the aforementioned said if you don't take communion, you're starving yourself spiritually. Now, personally, I never thought about communion that way. I thought of it as (and still do) as a way to remember what Jesus did for us. How he came to earth and sacrificed his body and blood.

I don't remember anything in the bible saying that communion is spiritual food. I just glanced through my Bible at some passages where communion is mentioned. Jesus instituted it in Matt 26:26. I read through that, and I'm not exactly sure why you would say communion is 'spiritual food'. It seems to me that 'spiritual food' is meditation on the word of God, prayer with God, and discussing things with fellow Christians.

Just thought that an interesting little topic.

Caleb. The following is just a few things that that sum up what I think about communion.

Every Sunday before I take communion I first confess my sins.
The Table represents the body and blood of Christ. I do not believe that I'm literally eating Christ's body and blood but a representation.

Christ said, "this is my blood which is shed for you and for many for the remission of sins"

Taking this, I believe it is very important to take communion reverently because my sins made by thought, word and deed, have been pardoned.

As for Communion being Spiritual food, it is Christ's body, doesn't that make it holy? It is God's way of forgiving our sins, it preserves our souls and bodies for everlasting life. It is food...and since from heaven, spiritual food because it preserves our soul.

I'm sorry if I've been confusing.

In the church I attend, communion is the focus of the service.

Thanks for posting..it's a difficult thing to grasp for me in many ways and rather difficult to explain

OK... OK... I think I see a little more clearly where this side is going.

Christ said, "this is my blood which is shed for you and for many for the remission of sins"

True. Jesus is saying, 'I shed my blood so that you could be forgiven.' Er, at least, that's what I'm reading. Communion should certainly be taken reverently, but it isn't the most important part of Christian life. I see it as a time of fellowship as well as remembrance, because Jesus did it with the disciples. Also, it seems an opportune time (at communion) to ask for forgiveness of sins, but that certainly isn't the only time we can do it. You could ask at any second of the day with the exacty same effect; complete forgiveness.

What we should really be concentrating on is living a Godly life, and most importantly, building a strong, personal relationship with God.

Every Sunday before I take communion I first confess my sins.

I think that's great and good, but it seems to me that this is well... A little to, uh, detached if you will. It's like we're devoting a specific time and place, and that becomes the only time and place we do/think about God/forgiveness. I would encourage thinking about and asking for forgiveness whenever you sin, or whenever you feel like you need it. God tells us he wants a personal relationship. And he's not just at church, even though we may fell he has a stronger presence there. God is everywhere. I think of him as a person who follows me around everywhere. Sits next to me, walks next to me.

Just some thoughts off the top of me head.

Okay I think Communion is an important part of the whole religion thing but i do not think you are starving yourself spiritually when you do not take it.Um yes it is important because it represent s Jesus' blood and His body and that yes He sacrificed Himself for us.But, I do not think it is the very life of a religion.Because if you do not eat you are starved and you die and I do not believe that communion is the Spiritual food we need.I think we need to have a personal relationship with Jesus, have Faith in Him, rely on Him to provide our needs, and to pray often (you know comunication), to maitain a healthy spiritual life.Anyway that is just my belief and it may not be everyone elses(In fact I know its not or else why would we be having this conversation?).

oh and all you have to do to have your sins forgiven is to repent and ( oh how odd) ask forgivness.not very hard and then they will be "as far as the East is from the West".Anway that is another belief of mine that I take very seriously.I do not believe that you must "confess" your sins and make amends for them .You simply have to ask God to forgive you.

Alright, if I didn't make this clear before, I think that communion is definately important, I mean, Jesus did tell us to do it, so, obviously, we should do it.
